Nome

Nome is the great gold rush outpost along the Bering Sea just below the Arctic Circle.  Some people still dredge or even pan the beach for gold, but today the city is probably even more famous as the terminus for the Iditarod sled dog races.  The economy is also supported by such industries as reindeer herding and ivory carving.
