Whale Bones

St. Lawrence Island, Whale Bones

These whale bones are all stacked next to this container, while on top is a dog sled.  Whaling is a big source of food and energy for the Inuit Eskimo population.  Their primary means for support is hunting whales, walrus, seals, and fish.  The number of whales caught is very few and only that needed for their own use.
