Glacier Bay
Glacier Bay National Park hosts the world's largest concentration of tidewater glaciers in a very small area. When the area was first discovered by Captain Vancouver in 1794, he came across a great wall of ice, 20 miles wide and nearly a mile high. A hundred years later, when John Muir visited, the glacier had retreated nearly fifty miles. Today, many smaller tributary glaciers are left, but most have receded significantly and are much smaller in size. Glacier Bay is also home to many different species of protected animals.
