The Southeast Alaska State Fair is a rural type fair with interesting events such as log rolling and axe throwing contests. There are also various folk music events. Tacky commercialism is kept to a minimum compared to most state fairs I have seen. It is the kind of fair I think most parents don't have a lot of concerns about bringing their kids to and letting them go on their own. The fair takes place on the grounds of an old movie set.
