Juneau is divided into a few communities. Douglas is across the Gastinau Channel. Here we see a view toward downtown Juneau across the water, with Mt. Juneau looming above. The other major community is the Mendenhall Valley, which is a newer part of town, and the smaller communities 'out the road'. Roads extend for quite a few miles north and south, but do not connect with any other cities or villages. The only way to get to Juneau is by air or water.
