Gilkey Glacier

Juneau, Gilkey Glacier
This is a view of the Gilkey Glacier from the Juneau Ice Field. To the right is where two glaciers meet. The edges of the glaciers get very dirty from rocks and debris that fall onto the glacier from the hillsides. When two glaciers combine (like river tributaries) the edges combine to form a stripe along the center of the new glacier, which often persists to the glacier's foot.
