Sitka
Sitka is where it all began for Alaska. The Russians turned Alaska over to the United States in Sitka in 1867. Sitka was at one time one of the major ports on the Pacific North American coast. Today this city of about 9000 people is the biggest city in America in terms of land size, at about 4700 sq. miles. Its incredibly beautiful setting makes it one of the most beautiful towns in Alaska. Unlike the other towns presented here, it is not on the Inside Passage, but lies on the Pacific coast.
