Totem Carving
Sitka National Historic Park
One of the things that can sometimes be seen in the park is someone carving a totem pole. I spent about three months in Sitka, during which I saw them carve this pole from little more than a log, until it was actually raised as part of a potlatch. In the next page, the finished totem can be seen standing.
