McCarthy Road
The McCarthy Road connects the town of Chitina just on the edge of Wrangell St. Elias National Park, with the town of McCarthy. The road was built over railroad tracks and is famous for being a rough and difficult road. It ends at the Kennicott River just before the town of McCarthy. Until recently, travelers used to have to pull themselves cross the river on an open tram, but now there is a modern footbridge.
