Anchorage

Anchorage is by far the largest city in Alaska.  It (as well as much of this part of the state) suffered heavily in the earthquake of 1964, and most of the city was rebuilt.  The first time I went to Anchorage, I only had a very short visit, and really didn't see the magic. But once I spent a little more time there, I found Anchorage to be a very liveable city, with great biking, hiking, and cross-country ski trails throughout the city.  It is surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery in America.
