Bridge to Nowhere
Cordova, Million Dollar Bridge
The bridge is also known as the Bridge to Nowhere, as the road essentially stops on the other side of the bridge. When the bridge was built, it connected Cordova with the road to the Kennicott Copper Mine to the north. But the mine closed in 1938, and part of the bridge collapsed in the earthquake of 1964. Rather than build a new bridge to nowhere, an innovative solution was to create this small 'bridge' from the normal part of the bridge to the collapsed portion.
