Turnagain Arm

Turnagain Arm is a narrow fjord that extends beyond the Cook Inlet south of Anchorage.  This area has the second largest tidal range in the World.  At low tide, much of it is mud flats.  Some of Alaska's most popular tourist attractions are found in this area.  The name comes from when Captain Cook was looking for a northwest passage, and on exploring this area, had to repeatedly "turn again"  here.
