This is Mt. Kinabalu from the base, where the park headquarters is. About three fourths the way up, below the clouds, are some of the huge towers that from here look miniscule. The hike itself starts out very deceptively - there is a small downhill stretch. That is the last stretch of downhill until leaving the peak. Except at the rest house, there really aren't even any flat stretches. It continues at a relatively steep and steady grade for almost the entire climb.
