Sloth

Manuel Antonio National Park, Sloth
Sloths are notorious for how slowly they move. This one was active enough to move from tree to tree, though not too quickly. Their metabolism is so slow they depend on bacteria to digest their food for them. They bask in the sun to warm up their abdomens to a temperature where the bacteria can do their work. It is said that they have been known to die of starvation with a full stomach during storms that last for several days since it is too cool for the bacteria to digest the food.
