Pollution
Varanasi, Ganges River
This water is so polluted, I am not sure bacteria can even live in it. People throw all their trash into the river, various industries dump into it, animals bathe and defecate, and many people are cremated at the burning ghats next to the river. Add to that the occasional corpses that float down river, which are people who couldn't afford to be cremated. I didn't feel that pictures of that were necessarily appropriate for this website so I did not include them.
