Hiroshima Restaurant

Hiroshima, Japan

This Italian restaurant, which stands across from the museum not far from the hypocenter is a tribute to how well the city has recovered.  After the bomb, it was expected it would take at least 75 years before the plants could grow here again and the area could re-develop.  Today, 61 years later, the city is a thriving industrial and cosmopolitan city.  Were it not for the memorials and the park, no one would ever be able to tell what had happened here not so long ago.  Part of the reason for the quick recovery is believed to be a large typhoon that hit shortly after the bomb which washed much of the radiation-contaminated soil and fresh water out to sea.
