Todaiji Temple Great Buddha
Todai-ji Temple, Nara, Japan
The statue was originally cast in 752, using hundreds of tons of bronze, mercury, and vegetable wax. The head was dislodged several times by fires and earthquakes. The current head was cast in 1692.
