Giant Kauri Tree

Tane Mahuta, Waipoua Forest, New Zealand

Giant Kauri forests used to blanket much of the North Island, and now only a few small forests remain. The Tane Mahuta is the largest of the Giant Kauri trees remaining, now preserved in the Waipoua Forest. It is 169 feet tall with a circumference of 45 feet!  It is believed to be over 2100 years old.
