St Pierre Architecture
St. Pierre
St. Pierre has retained its French customs and even some types of architecture that differ quite a bit from Newfoundland. Some of the French customs they have chosen to keep surprise me. As in France, lunch hours are very strict. But the ferry arrives a while before the formal lunch hours, then tourists can take a tour of the island during those hours, and then have an hour or two to explore the town. None of the restaurants are open during the hours that day-tourists are on the island if they choose to take the local tour. To me it seems like a missed economic opportunity as many of the tourists look forward to an authentic French meal but are disappointed to not have the opportunity and go back to Newfoundland hungry.
