Franklin Pierce Homestead
Hillsboro, Franklin Pierce Homestead
This was the home of President Franklin Pierce, the fourteenth president of the United States. His third child died in a train accident just before his inauguration (the other two having died prior to that) and his wife went into severe depression (as did he), and the country was in turmoil, making it a very difficult administration. His Secretary of War was Jefferson Davis, later to become president of the Confederacy.
