Darien Jungle
The Darien Jungle is a rugged impenetrable strip of land where Panama joins Columbia and the rest of South America. It is the only gap along the Trans American Highway from Alaska to Argentina. It is also a land embroiled in political and criminal hostilities related to the drug trade. But living in this wild jungle are native people trying to live peacefully. We visited a local Embera village in the Darien Jungle. Though very poor financially by western civilization standards, they live in a very rich environment and appear to be a very proud and happy people.
