Mangrove Roots

Portobelo, Mangrove Roots

Mangroves propagate in areas where no other plants can, along the water's edge, typically where salt water mixes with fresh water.  They are able to desalinate the water for their own use.  They send out roots which take hold and create an impenetrable thicket, which eventually creates  enough mass to support other plants.
