Kremlin
The Kremlin was originally a fortress built to protect the city. Streets radiate out from its central location. Eventually it became the seat of government, as it remains today. I found it interesting that in an officially atheist society, the cathedrals were extremely well preserved. The cathedrals inside the Kremlin are extremely beautiful inside, but photography was not allowed (a common policy done to generate more income from selling pictures, books, and postcards).
