Lenin Mausoleum
Moscow, Lenin Mausoleum
This was where the embalmed body of Vladimir Lenin, the founder of the Soviet State, was stored for public display until just a few years ago. For most of that time, the lines to see him were long, and waits of a couple of hours or more were typical. By the time I was there, the wait for the mausoleum was about twelve minutes, while the line to the new McDonalds was nearly a couple of hours. I thought that was quite symbolic for that time.
