This section now is probably more of historical interest than travel, as things have changed a lot since I went to Russia. I went there in 1990, before the Berlin Wall came down, while it was still the Soviet Union. St. Petersburg was called Leningrad, and communism was still the rule of the land. Even then, things were a bit different than I had expected. The Siberia section is more recent, and has been part of my Alaska site since I visited it while working on a ship in the Bering Sea. It certainly has more in common with the Alaskan Bering Sea communities than with the rest of Russia.
