Historic Bridge, Mostar, Bosnia
This bridge has an incredible, though now unfortunate, history. It was built in 1566 after other bridges over this river had fallen in. The Sultan gave the builder an ultimatum - build a bridge that keeps standing, or lose his head. After it was built with only goats hair and eggs for mortar, the builder went into exile. It was finally destroyed in the recent Bosnian War, but only after multiple attempts to bomb it with modern explosives and artillery by the Serbs.
