Guadalcanal

Guadalcanal is the most populous of the Solomon Islands, and the administrative center.  It was the site of fierce fighting during WWII and was a turning point in the Pacific theater.  Recently, there has been a lot of political instability, much of it due to racial issues and government corruption.  There was even some  rioting in Honiara, the capital city, about a month after we left there.  This island has the highest incidence of Malaria in the world, with as many as a third to a half of the people infected each year.
