Part of the reason some of these villages are so well preserved is that the wool market was so prosperous, but then the economy plummeted quickly, so they were not able to replace these cottages with more modern structures. Today the area is at risk of overdevelopment of the surrounding areas destroying the area's charm. Its popularity is also hurting it with its ominous traffic problems.
