Grasmere

Lake District National Park, Grasmere
William Wordsworth lived along the shores of Grasmere, and it was his writing that stimulated the interests of people to the beauty of the natural scenery here. Prior to this time, mountainous areas were often viewed as ugly and scary. This was also during the industrial revolution, where much of the English landscape was being transformed and disfigured by factories and smoke, and people started to become attracted to the unspoiled landscapes of places like the Lake District.
