Ironbridge Gorge

Ironbridge

Ironbridge is where the industrial revolution began.  Abraham Darby pioneered the cheap smelting of iron with coke here in 1709. It now has an impressive collection of museums chronicling the revolution.  The bridge over the Severn River in the picture was the first cast-iron bridge ever constructed, which gave the town and gorge their name.
