Fort Pearce
This is an old fort on the outskirts of town that can be interesting to explore. The name is another that is spelled in different ways. On many maps and tour books, I see it spelled like I have above, but in the town of St. George, they spell it Pierce. It was not named after President Pierce, but after Captain John Pearce who led Mormon troops during the Black Hawk War with the Ute Indians right after the American Civil War.
