Vietnam  Veterans Memorial

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is perhaps the most moving of all the memorials in Washington. It was dedicated in 1982, while the country was still trying to deal with the issues of the war, and consists of two triangular shaped shiny black granite walls with the names of every known soldier to have died during the war. The ends point to the Lincoln and Washington Monuments, and there is also a sculpture depicting soldiers during the war.  Many people leave little mementoes along the wall, which are eventually gathered and stored at the Museum of American History.
