Washington Monument
George Washington was the first president of the United States, and considered the 'father of the country'. Construction of the monument did not begin until 1848, and then stopped at 152 feet high in 1853 when funds ran out, and did not continue again until nearly a quarter of a century later. When it was finally finished in 1884, it was the World's tallest building.
